External Transfer and Vertical Transfer
External Transfer
Sabancı University is the first university in Türkiye to offer students the freedom to choose their undergraduate programs after enrollment. This system aims to ensure that students gain knowledge not only in their specific fields but across various disciplines, fostering their development as well-rounded individuals.
This freedom of program selection also applies to students admitted through inter-institutional transfers (transferring from another university).
Types of Inter-institutional Transfers
Inter-institutional transfers can be conducted in two ways:
- Transfer based on GPA (General Point Average).
- Transfer based on Central Placement Examination Score (within the scope of "Ek Madde-1").
The periods during which students admitted to Sabancı University through one of these methods can apply for an internal transfer may vary. In determining the semester criteria, the course adjustment periods are also taken into account.
- Students who transfer from another institution based on their GPA, may apply for an internal transfer until the end of the fourth semester at the latest. Internal transfer procedures for the fifth semester and beyond can only be carried out based on the central placement score within the scope of "Ek Madde-1."
- For students admitted through inter-institutional transfer within the scope of "Ek Madde-1," the final period to apply for an internal transfer is the fourth semester. The right to transfer via "Ek Madde-1" can only be exercised once.
For students arriving via inter-institutional transfer, the freedom to choose a program is implemented in two ways:
- Students Admitted Directly to a Major:
Students placed directly into a specific undergraduate program may change their program by applying for an internal transfer, provided they meet the requirements set by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) and Sabancı University regulations. - Students Admitted to a Common Program Group:
Students placed into a common program can declare their specific major in the semesters following their enrollment. Subsequently, they may also change their program via internal transfer, subject to the relevant YÖK and Sabancı University criteria.

Vertical Transfer
Sabancı University does not have a vertical transfer quota. Vertical transfers are made from a 2-year associate degree program to an undergraduate program. The guide prepared by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) contains information about which vocational school and open education associate degree graduates can apply for vertical transfer to which undergraduate programs each year, the conditions of these programs and the number of students to be admitted to these programs. Applicants take an aptitude test consisting of verbal and numerical sections. A score that will be used as a basis for placement is calculated by taking into consideration the scores obtained by the candidates in the aptitude test, the ÖSS scores that are used as the basis for their admission to the vocational school or open education associate degree programs, and the Weighted Associate Degree Achievement Score of the vocational school or open education associate degree program. ÖSYM, candidates who meet the application conditions; places students in undergraduate programs, taking into account their preferences, placement scores, quotas and conditions of undergraduate scores.
